M3000 dual modality instrument |
Images of packed bed (ERT) and fluidised bed (ECT); separate sensors |
ITS has recently developed a single hardware platform that will drive ECT (capacitance tomography)
and ERT (resistance tomography) instrument modules.
This system has been designed for experienced tomography
users and offer flexibility in injection protocols and measurement
frequencies. At present these are avaialble in one or two plane formats,
further details are available on request.

The three phase detection of air / water / oil with ITS M3000 multi-modal system
The m3000 sensor can operate ECT and ERT sensors at the same position to provide time stamped co-located data.
The above shows
- ERT data (water at pixel height 1-4 out of 20) = 2cm (2.5cm actual)
- ECT data (oil-water phase at pixel height 1-19 out 32) = 6cm (6.5cm actual).
This provides a capability to investigate multi-phase / multi-component flow on air / oil / water and similar systems.
M3000 applications are primarily in:
- multi-phase flow, where the continuous medium varies from conducting to non-conducting.
- processes which move from conducting to non-conducting (polymerisation).
- investigation of multiple components requires tomography operation at different frequencies.

Products and Services - Instruments
2000 resistance tomography instrument
. the instrument can be provided in 2 sizes - compact (for 1 or two planes) and full (expandable up to 8 planes).
Units can be supplied as rack mounted to be fitted in cabinets or enclosures or as free standing units for laboratory use.
ITS equipment is designed to rapidly measure electrical parameters -
in particular electrical resistance and or capacitance -
so that these measurements can be combined for tomographic analysis.
Typical data collection speeds are in excess of 30 frames per second for a 16 electrode configuration. More detailed specifications are available on request.

The instrument can also be supplied as a rack mounted unit.
In addition, the following hardware modules are also available:
. Low conductivity adaptor (for operation in polar organic solvents)
. High conductivity adaptor (for operation in highly conductive regimes, such as strong acids or bases)
. Enclosures to IP57
. Control module, providing a 4-20mA output of key outputs
. Intrinsically safe module certified to EEx ia II C T6. Available to operate linear and circular tomography
systems in a hazardous environment.
